What is Visual Stress?

Visual Stress - also known as Irlen Syndrome, Meares-Irlen® Syndrome, or Scotopic Sensitivity - is a sensory processing condition that affects how the brain interprets visual information.

People with Visual Stress may experience:

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Headaches, migraines, or in some cases, seizures

  • Difficulty reading or processing text

  • Words or letters that appear to wobble, flicker, or move

  • Glare from white pages or screens

  • Eye strain and fatigue

  • Poor comprehension

  • Challenges with depth perception

  • Reduced motivation or low self-esteem

Everyone’s journey through education and work is different - but for some, undiagnosed challenges like dyslexia, neurodiversity, and visual stress can make it feel like the odds are stacked against them. My work has grown from a personal passion for helping people overcome these barriers, into a dedicated service that offers understanding, support, and practical solutions such as Irlen screenings.

Our service is mobile meaning we can carry out screenings in a variety of settings, provided:

  • The location is safe

  • Wifi is available

  • There is a good-sized desk/table with seating that will accommodate two people, the spread of overlays, a laptop, and screen

  • There is a lift if the location is on an upper floor due to physical limitations

  • A range of options are available 

 

ClearPlus is not tied to one system or set of colours - and will work with you to ensure we choose the best options for you and to ensure you understand what is available as well as the costs involved.
